Personal history

A life reshaped by cranial manual therapy

Dr. Kaminsky's path into craniosacral therapy began not in a classroom but with his own body. Long before he was a practitioner in New York City, he was a patient searching for relief — and that firsthand experience now anchors how he listens to and works with everyone who comes to his Midtown Manhattan office.

Childhood migraines that nothing seemed to touch

Alex was born in March 1972. At the age of 7 he began experiencing frequent migraines accompanied by auras, nausea, and sensitivity to light, with no clear trigger for the pain. The headaches were a constant presence through his childhood. Years of treatments, therapies, and medications offered no lasting relief — until, much later, cranial manual therapy completely eradicated his lifelong migraines.

An adolescent scoliosis diagnosis

By age 16, Alex noticed a mild deformity on the right side of his ribs, a slightly lower right shoulder, and constant lower back pain. Although the curvature was mild, he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Adolescent Scoliosis — a structural pattern that, in his case, came paired with the ache he carried in his lower back.

An accident that deepened the pain

Two years later, a serious car accident exacerbated his lower back pain. Despite conventional care — and even throughout his years in chiropractic school — he continued to experience on-and-off back pain. He understood, from the inside, how a persistent ache can quietly shape daily life.

The turning point: his first Upledger seminar

In 2015, more than fifteen years after graduating chiropractic school, Dr. Kaminsky attended his first Upledger Craniosacral Therapy seminar. The gentle, non-invasive methods resonated with him immediately. As he traded craniosacral sessions with colleagues to practice the work, his own long-standing low back pain resolved — and it has never returned.

That experience changed the direction of his career. He set out to deepen his skill, consulting craniosacral therapists, cranial osteopaths, and leading practitioners across multiple fields, and enrolling in Upledger continuing education focused on hands-on manual and alternative therapies. As his own health improved, he learned to help more patients move toward meaningful results of their own.

Today Dr. Kaminsky practices headache-free and low-back-pain free. You can learn more about craniosacral therapy and the techniques he uses, or read about what to expect at your first visit.

Key milestones

The experiences that shape his care

Personal experience with migraines, scoliosis, and post-accident pain fuels Dr. Kaminsky's empathy and clinical insight. Because he lived with persistent pain himself, he understands how much it can affect everyday life — and he brings that awareness to every patient he sees.

Since 2015 he has worked primarily with craniosacral therapy: a gentle, non-invasive laying-on of the hands intended to support the body's own capacity to release restriction and restore balance.
