Schroth Method

Dr. Kaminsky is very proficient with the Schroth method and recommends that you seek someone who specializes in this modality.

To maximize your therapeutic potential with Schroth, Dr. Kaminsky will work with you in a supportive and synergistic systems called, “Craniosacral Therapy”, and “Pranic Healing”.  These modalities will add the energetic and spiritual component needed in healing.

Additional breathing techniques will be demonstrated for outside instruction to be implemented into a weekly routine.

Adding additional components into a Schroth protocol will greatly improve the potential of your curve reversal.

The Schroth method addresses specifically the musculoskeletal system having you actively use voluntary movement, positioning and breath. Craniosacral Therapy, Pranic Healing will help improve the function of the body’s innate self-regulating, self-healing mechanisms.

Important is the consideration of the role of the craniosacral mechanism in scoliosis, which has been found to always be compromised in children and adults with scoliosis, as discovered by the Osteopathic profession.

Treating the craniosacral mechanism with craniosacral therapy adds synergy and invaluable benefit to the whole complex process of curve restoration.

With scoliosis there is always involvement with the diaphragm, so incorporating breathing techniques is very important.

Breathing is dynamic and therefore, the breathing techniques must always challenge the patient. Specific breathing exercises are taught by Dr. Kaminsky in office and recommended for home care.

Pranic Healing is a body-work system that is applied to the body’s energetic system. The energetic system holds muscular patterns that must be released in-order for the spine to straighten. Energy body work is incorporated into all in-office sessions.

You get a comprehensive approach against scoliosis with Dr. Kaminsky.

Scoliosis is reversible given the proper sequential and detailed care.

Dr. Kaminsky’s ongoing continuing education in various scientific fields allows him to offer solutions outside the box, offering additional methods of treatment. To learn about his philosophy about Scoliosis, click here.

Origins of the Schroth Method

The field of Schroth therapy offers a non-invasive yet forward moving approach to managing the progression of scoliosis. Katharina Schroth, a German native and scoliosis patient herself, began the work of scoliosis correction on herself as well as research on scoliosis treatment that continues through today.

Schroth Method for Managing Scoliosis

The basis of the Schroth Method consists of conservative exercises designed to elongate the trunk and develop the muscles of the rib cage. These muscles can deteriorate due to non-use by the individual suffering from scoliosis. Therefore, when they are strengthened the upper trunk is more supported and elongated which leads to a correction of spinal abnormalities.

These exercises are based on a three dimensional (3-D) approach to visualize the extent and uniqueness of the patient’s curvature. An x-ray of the spine, while informative, is only a 1-dimensional view of the extent of the spinal curve. The practitioner being able to visualize the spine’s curves from a 3-D approach allows them to understand the vertebral rotations that occur with scoliosis. The spine exists in three planes; sagittal plane (front to back), frontal plane (side to side), and transverse plane (rotations).

Schroth Method is a Good Option

The overall goal of scoliosis treatment with the Schroth Method is to stop the progression of the curvature and second to straighten the spine. Through these exercises the potential of a decreased curve(s), diminished rib prominence and more even aligned pelvis is achievable.

Today the Schroth Method is considered a viable and appropriate therapy modality for treating curvatures of the spine. The uniqueness of this approach is its focus on muscular imbalance. While this method may require effort, determination, and discipline from the patient it is less invasive and more promising for achieving long-lasting relief from pain and or spinal curvature / vertebral rotation.

Schroth is a Process

Addressing the curvature of the spine from all three planes is the best approach attempting to achieve a straightening and proper alignment of the spine. This will allow the individual a chance to obtain continued long-term benefits.

The patient undergoing scoliosis correction utilizing the Schroth Method should expect to perform customized exercises for the curvature(s) of their spine specifically. Using position, repetition, and breathing the patient will become aware of the desired new posture. Chiropractor, Dr. Alex Kaminsky will utilize additional methods from Craniosacral Therapy, Pranic Healing and Breathing to help add synergy and achieve maximum amount of therapeutic potential.

Schroth Breathing

There are two phases of the Schroth Method approach; positioning and activation. Phase one, positioning the body, is where the practitioner shows the patient how to position the body and align the posture beginning from the feet and working up to the head. Some equipment may be used such as a pull-up bar to lengthen the spine, or straps and props to help properly position the torso.

The second phase, activation, will activate the previously acquired corrections from phase one. In phase two the muscles will be worked and trained to produce endurance so they are better able to support the spine and ribs for long-term results.

Advanced Breathing Techniques

Dr. Kaminsky incorporates breathing techniques as taught by Dr. Gay Hendricks, which are very useful and powerful in helping reset the patients physiology and allow for release of functional restrictions the body is holding. The patient will be shown how to consciously breath in conjunction with craniosacral therapy in the office during sessions, as well as at home care.

Dr. Kaminsky Combines Complementary Methods

Scoliosis patients of all ages are encouraged to seek a consultation to determine if they are a good candidate to incorporate Craniosacral Therapy, Pranic Healing and Breathing Techniques to their Schroth sessions.

About Dr. Kaminsky & Craniosacral Therapy

Having a Chiropractic background since the year 2000, Dr. Kaminsky offers many methods of treatment with an emphasis on Craniosacral Therapy in NYC.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a method focusing on the link between the cranium (head) and sacrum (the second to last bone at the base of your spine), scientifically proven to work in unison to pump fluid throughout the body, an unknown disruption of which can cause many health issues.  The craniosacral mechanism pumps vital fluid called cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) through the body and in a sense energetically lubricates the joints, tissues, organs; basically all cells of the body. It is the driving force of all your body’s systems of function; including maintaining the tone of your muscles.

The Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) are surrounded with CSF generating energetic rhythmic impulses of fluid delicately pumping throughout your body’s parts “breathing” the movement of life. This measurable rhythm of moving fluid, like the heart rhythm, pulse rhythm, breathing rhythm is the foundational “blueprint” and primary principle of our real-time state of our health.

Compromises of our rhythmic movements of fluid flow correlates to the impulse restrictions in the system which the body is unable to overcome or self-correct. This is the reason why we have “dis-ease”, symptoms, conditions, basically all ailments.  This is where the skill of an experienced craniosacral therapist becomes valuable.  By placing his or her hands on your body the practitioner can feel, detect, evaluate, and facilitate correction of these restrictive arrhythmic impulses.

The craniosacral therapist helps your rhythm restore and renew in compromised areas allowing for healing to take place of sensory, motor, musculoskeletal, neurological disorders, symptoms, conditions and pain.  To learn more, visit the other pages on this website.
