Dyslexia Treatment for Children in New York City

Dyslexia is the term given to the language-based learning disability that involves a cluster of symptoms. 1 of 5 children have a language-based learning disability, dyslexia being the most common. It is important to note that dyslexia is not tied to a child’s IQ or intelligence in any way.  In fact, over 50 percent of NASA employees have dyslexia. Individuals with this condition are known to being able to think outside of the box, connecting ideas, and seeing the big picture. It is only considered a “learning disability” due to its impact on making it hard for some children to succeed without access to phonics-based reading.

The specific cause of dyslexia is unknown in the medical community and research is moving toward discovering what the cause might be. At present, imaging of the brain shows that there are differences in both development and function of a dyslexic brain as compared to a brain without a dyslexia diagnosis. It does appear that dyslexia may run in families, as parents with the condition are more likely to have children with it as well making it a neurobiological and possibly genetic condition.

The effects of dyslexia can be lifelong and result in poor self-image, feelings of being less intelligent, experience of heightened stress from academic issues, and discouragement in continuing education.   Diagnosing dyslexia can be tricky as there is no single test for the condition. However, the founder of Craniosacral Therapy, Dr. John Upledger has evaluated and treated many children in his career and he has stated that dyslexia is directly tied into the misalignment of the Temporal bones of the cranium.

From a craniosacral perspective, the causes of dyslexia usually relate to a restriction somewhere in the craniosacral system. Because of the reciprocal nature of the system, the restriction can be anywhere in the system. The effect of the restriction may be painless or ends up causing pressure in the head, often but not exclusively, in the temporal regions of the brain.  Hence Craniosacral Therapy can be a viable option of treatment to those children suffering with dyslexia.  Once the Cranial Subluxations are restructured the abnormal pressure is removed off of the brain, then, normal brain activity can resume and chemistry can be maintained by diet and exercise.

Detecting and treating the condition early is a key to success. Though traditional treatments are mildly effective there are alternative means are proving to be thoroughly effective and / or are an excellent compliment to the conventional therapy that is already taking place.  With a chiropractic care model vertebral misalignments or subluxations interfere with nerve system messages from the peripheral to the central nervous system. The disorganization within the central nervous system itself is a factor.

The main essence of chiropractic care is treating misalignments of the spine’s vertebrae, which are known as spinal subluxations. These subluxations can put pressure on the nerves leading to or from the spinal cord, which interfere with proper signaling to and from the brain. In the case of dyslexia, the pathways that allow for proper translation of written words into phonemes may be affected. By shifting these the cranial bones and or vertebrae back into alignment, the pressure on the nerves may be relieved, allowing the brain to properly process the written word.

There is a good chance Dr. Kaminsky can structure a Dyslexia Treatment blending a combination of craniosacral therapy and chiropractic care to help your child with dyslexia, while realizing other benefits to be gained such as improved sleep, better focus, and calmness during the day.

About Dr. Kaminsky & Craniosacral Therapy

Having a Chiropractic background since the year 2000, Dr. Kaminsky offers many methods of treatment with an emphasis on Craniosacral Therapy in NYC.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a method focusing on the link between the cranium (head) and sacrum (the second to last bone at the base of your spine), scientifically proven to work in unison to pump fluid throughout the body, an unknown disruption of which can cause many health issues.  The craniosacral mechanism pumps vital fluid called cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) through the body and in a sense energetically lubricates the joints, tissues, organs; basically all cells of the body. It is the driving force of all your body’s systems of function; including maintaining the tone of your muscles.

The Central Nervous System (brain and spinal cord) are surrounded with CSF generating energetic rhythmic impulses of fluid delicately pumping throughout your body’s parts “breathing” the movement of life. This measurable rhythm of moving fluid, like the heart rhythm, pulse rhythm, breathing rhythm is the foundational “blueprint” and primary principle of our real-time state of our health.

Compromises of our rhythmic movements of fluid flow correlates to the impulse restrictions in the system which the body is unable to overcome or self-correct. This is the reason why we have “dis-ease”, symptoms, conditions, basically all ailments.  This is where the skill of an experienced craniosacral therapist becomes valuable.  By placing his or her hands on your body the practitioner can feel, detect, evaluate, and facilitate correction of these restrictive arrhythmic impulses.

The craniosacral therapist helps your rhythm restore and renew in compromised areas allowing for healing to take place of sensory, motor, musculoskeletal, neurological disorders, symptoms, conditions and pain.  To learn more, visit the other pages on this website.
